The Inanda Heritage trail forms part of the Freedom route in Inanda, north of Durban, which takes visitors on a journey into the history of South Africans who helped shape the country.
The Ohlange Institute was established by Rev. John Dube, who was also the first president of the African National Congress. The Ohlange Institute is also the historical site where ex-president Nelson Mandela cast his vote in South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994.
Established in 1869 by the missionary Mary Edwards, the seminary is one of the oldest African private schools for girls, and has recently undergone a complete restoration.
Ebuhleni is the home to Ebuhleni Shembe International Church. In 1976 after a succession dispute, this religious community broke away from the original Shembe community, Ibandla LamaNazaretha. In 1980, Bishop Amos Khula Shembe established Ebuhleni, meaning "place of beauty" on the plateau of Mtabutule. The site is situated in savannah grasslands and surrounded by cliffs, protruding out next to the wall of the Inanda Dam. The settlement of Ebuhleni is nearly a kilometre in diameter, with men and women separated on either side of the entrance road. Every year in January, Ebuhleni attracts thousands of believers for the annual pilgrimage (two weeks after Ibandla LamaNazaretha have made a similar pilgrimage) to the holy mountain of Nhlangakazi, and again in July for a festival of dance and praise.
At eNanda Adventure Centre:
Entry fees to the Freedom Race do not include tented accommodation and cubical showers for our riders, we would rather leave it to you to look up long lost friends or book to stay in one of Durban's many sought after B&B's or amazing Hotels along the KZN North Coast. Each days stage starts at 06:30 / 07:00, giving competitors plenty of time to get to each starting point, ready to take on the Freedom Race challenge.
Umhlanga Travel and Tours will be providing a shuttle service from Suncoast to eNanda Adventure Centre on Saturday and Sunday morning. Should you wish to book your spot please contact Umhlanga Travel and Tours directly.
